NFHF nominert til pris
Norsk fyrhistorisk forening er nominert til EUs kulturminnepris – Europa Nostra Awards for sitt langvarige arbeid for bevaring, ny bruk og allmenn tilgjengeliggjøring av norske fyrstasjoner.

I 2017 fyller Norsk fyrhistorisk forening 20 år og er nominert i kategorien ”Dedicated service” for sitt arbeid i hele denne perioden.
Fra en posisjon der staten både rev og solgte fyrstasjoner fram til 2000-tallet har foreningen bidratt til et enormt løft av tilstanden til norske fyrstasjoner, økt lokal engasjement og et tydelig skift i holdning både fra offentlige myndigheter og blant befolkningen forøvrig. Foreningen organiserer i dag 77 lokale initiativ på like mange fyr, og aktiviteten er økende. ”Fyrferie” har blitt et veletablert begrep, og pågangen er stor fra både norske og utenlandske turister. Folk tiltrekkes av både naturen, arkitekturen, historia og kystkulturen.
Det er Norges kulturvernforbund med anbefaling fra Kystverket, Kystverkmusea og Forbundet Kysten som har nominert Norsk fyrhistorisk forening til den anerkjente kulturminneprisen.
I nominasjonen heter det:
«The Norwegian Lighthouse Society has since it was founded in 1997 contributed significantly to the general increase of the awareness of the cultural heritage value of the lighthouses along the coast. Their commitment has played an important part in the development of the respect for and the wish to take care of this monumental part of our coastal culture.»

«The reaction to the outselling of lighthouses and the establishment of The Norwegian Lighthouse Society led to an important change in Norwegian politics regarding lighthouse preservation. No lighthouses have been sold by the Norwegian government since this.
The organization has succeeded in building up and maintaining a network between most of the Norwegian lighthouse users, owners and visitors. The engagement of The Norwegian Lighthouse Society was one of the premises leading to the establishment of the Norwegian Lighthouse museum in 2008.»
